Tofu Bolognese

Real Food for Real Kids - Tofu Bolognese Recipe

Makes 4-6 servings


  • 1 tbsp sunflower or grapeseed oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • ½ carrot, diced
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • ½ green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (540mL)
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 1 ¼ tsp sea salt
  • 1½ tbs maple syrup
  • 1 pkg extra firm tofu (454g)
  • pinch of ground fennel seed
  • pinch of ground coriander seed
  • pinch of black peppercorns
  • pinch rosemary pinch
  • pinch of dried thyme pinch
  • pinch of dried oregano
  • pinch of dried basil


  1. In a medium saucepan over low-medium heat, cook the onions, carrots, celery, peppers, and garlic in oil until softened.
  2. Add all remaining ingredients, except tofu, and simmer for 20 min. (told you this would be easy)
  3. While sauce is simmering, crumble tofu into small pieces. How small? Up to you.
  4. Once the sauce has simmered 20 minutes, add crumbled tofu. Return to simmer, then remove from heat, serve, and enjoy!
