Continuing with our 20th birthday posts, let’s honour World Bee Day by revisiting one of our proudest initiatives.

RFRK partners with George Brown College Hospitality and Culinary Arts Professor and Ontario Beekeeper, Patrick Secord, to host a flourishing group of beehives at the RFRK facility. Not only do we love nurturing the hives, but we always get several dozen jars of our very own hyper-local honey at the end of the summer. Talk about a sweet reward!
These buzzing superheroes are crucial for our environment. Bees use their pollinating power to transform flowers into the fruits & veggies we serve kids every day. In fact, every 3rd bite we consume is directly thanks to pollinators. It’s un-bee-lievable how important they are!
To teach your little ones about nature’s multitaskers, show them Shabazz Larkin’s The Thing About Bees: A Love Letter. This beautiful tribute explains to kids how bees can be fascinating, not frightening! You can also get a hard copy here.
