check out our champion, faul farms!
Hyper-local? Check. We’ve been working directly with Ed Faul and his family from Ayr, Ontario to bring pasture-raised, grass-fed beef without added hormones or routine antibiotics to our menus for more than 10 years! Lulu, our founder, first met him at the Royal Winter Fair in 2006 when she was searching for the highest most sustainable quality meats for our menus!
“Faul Farms has been working with RFRK for over 10 years and we are proud to supply them with our local and natural grass-fed beef. We know our cows well and care for their health and well-being from birth. We only feed them the crops we grow, fertilized by their own manure and we don’t use any chemicals on our hay fields and pastures. We care about the health of the land and rotate crops to give the earth time to rest and rejuvenate, just as nature intended.
We’re best known for our excellent quality beef which comes directly from using traditional, smaller scale, sustainable farming techniques. We’re passionate about knowing our animals; not only what they’re fed and how they are treated from birth, but also ensuring that they never come into contact with routine antibiotics, hormones or chemical feed additives. We’ve been working with local farm families for over twenty years and with those relationships helping to reconnect consumers with our rich agricultural heritage.
We love working with Real Food for Real Kids mostly because it is so rewarding to know that our hard work on the farm helps many young children and families receive healthy nutritional meals. It makes us proud to farm the way we do and know it has an impact on so many kids lives throughout the GTHA!”
We serve beef from Ed’s farm regularly, specifically in our dishes that feature ground beef including; Beef Bolognese, Beef & Bean Chili & our RFRK-seasoned ground beef substitutes for kids’ with allergies in our childcare service. Many RFRK’ers have had the chance to visit the Faul farm to learn about how they care for and feed the cattle, and you can too! Check out their website or visit their farm store.
