Ramadam started on March 10th this year and will end on April 9th with Eid-al-fitr, or “the feast of breaking the fast.” It marks the final day of dawn-to-dusk fasting for the Muslim community.
Eid isn’t just any ordinary day; it’s a magical mosaic of traditions and togetherness and often ends with a feast. In Rabia’s Eid, written by Rukhsana Khan and illustrated by Debby Rahmalia, kids can learn about this tradition!
For the last day of fasting, young Rabia wants to join her family. After her dad tells her she can do a half day, she enjoys some cereal for breakfast before she’s ready to get started! She donates to her family’s Mosque, sports a new dress, and much more!
As part of the Step into Reading series, Rabia’s Eid is classifed as Step 2. This makes it great for kids around age 4 who can understand short sentences and can recognize basic, familiar words.
