Meet Ryan O’Shaughnessy, who joined Real Food for Real Kids in October 2022.
What do you do at the Real Food for Real Kids?
I am a Products & Services Coordinator. I am responsible for finding new, and exciting products for the menu from companies that are just as excited as we are to provide healthy and delicious food for kids.
There are many challenges that arise when seeking out new products, but one of the biggest ones I face is allergens. Sometimes I may think I’ve got a great new snack for the menu only to find out that it’s made in a facility with nuts which means we can’t bring them in.
What do you love about working at RFRK?
Though dealing with allergens presents a big challenge, it’s one of the things I love about working with RFRK. I love the challenge of being able to find new items, or developing new items with vendors that we are proud to put on our menu and can be served to as many kids as possible.
If you were a superhero, who would you be?
Not sure if he’s so much of a “super” hero, but I‘d definitely love to be a part of Scooby Doo’s Mystery Inc. Driving around in a van with my dog and friends while solving mysteries seems like it’d be rewarding – and a lot of fun.
What’s your favourite Real Food recipe?
Mac‘n Cheese is an obvious choice, but the new Lentil Shepherd’s Pie that’s coming is pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty good. Also, I’m a big fan of the chickpea crisps – which was one of the first new snacks I sourced for RFRK.
What types of activities do you enjoy outside of work?
I love music, so much of my time is spent listening to my record collection or finding new records to listen to. I also love going to see live music at many of the great concert venues in the city. When I’m not doing that, I’m usually spending my time playing with my dog (Stevie) or trying to cook/bake whatever new recipes catch my eye.
Do you wish you could play an active part in feeding kids healthy, nutritious & delicious food?
