November 14th is World Diabetes Day. 💙 This year’s theme? Diabetes and well-being at work. While the theme is aimed at grown-ups, we think it also makes sense for kids in its own way. After all, childcare is a little like their “9 to 5,” a place where they learn, thrive and settle into a daily rhythm. And because what kids eat plays such a big part in helping them feel their best, we’re highlighting how RFRK keeps lunch & snack time easy for children with diabetes.
a balanced approach to real food
At RFRK, we care about providing food that is healthy, nourishing and meets the needs of all children. We design our menus with the following in mind:
- We keep added sugars low
- We choose ingredients that provide steady energy
- We offer foods that are lower on the glycemic index
- “All foods fit”- there are no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods, and everything in moderation fits a healthy eating model
what parents can expect
Families of children with diabetes can count on:
- Monthly menus shared in advance
- Net carbohydrate counts for every snack and lunch
- Access to full ingredient lists
- Questions? Please visit our contact page to reach out!
what child care centres can expect
RFRK offers basic training to help childcare staff understand our menus and serve children with diabetes safely. We work closely with centres so every child can enjoy mealtime together.
