At RFRK, we practice what we preach—enabling & inspiring a lifetime of healthy eating & habits not just for the kids we serve, but the team that makes it all happen. From Monday, March 17th to Friday, March 21st, we dove headfirst into a week filled with wellness-centric events, challenges, and tips designed to rejuvenate the RFRK team.
each day focused on a different aspect of wellness:
- Monday: Nutrition
- Tuesday: Mindfulness
- Wednesday: Working Well
- Thursday: Relaxation
- Friday: Fitness
day 1: nutrition
We kicked things off by focusing on thoughtful food choices—something we know a thing or two about! We enjoyed the “The Power of Fuel: How to Eat for Optimal Performance” Lunch & Learn— hosted by RFRK’s very own Winnie. It gave us all an important reminder that what we eat directly influences our energy, mood, and concentration.
The Wellness Tip of the Day encouraged small, mindful choices— such as balancing meals with protein, healthy fats, and fibre, staying hydrated, and choosing whole food snacks over processed options.
day 2: mindfulness
The practice of being fully present & engaged is something many adults struggle with nowadays. On Tuesday, Megan from Slow Medicine led a virtual Mindfulness 101 session, guiding us through gentle desk movements, breath work, and meditation techniques to help reduce stress and enhance focus.
For those looking for a quick reset, the Wellness Tip of the Day introduced a one-minute mindfulness practice—closing your eyes, taking deep breaths, and tuning into your surroundings—to bring calm and clarity into the workday.
day 3: working well

Workplace-friendly wellness choices can go a long way! This theme included a fun test that encouraged healthy competition, the Wall Sit Challenge, which inspired RFRK’ers to channel their endurance for some great prizes. It really engaged the team!
A team personality test also helped us better understand our work styles and how to collaborate more effectively. This day highlighted the importance of making workspaces a supportive environment.
day 4: relaxation

Thursday was a total breath of fresh air — literally! It centred on relaxation and brought back a fan-favourite: the Yess Xpress Oxygen Bar. We inhaled purified, scented oxygen designed to boost mental clarity, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. So cool!
We also learned that relaxation isn’t just about taking breaks with our phones and other devices—it’s about giving the body & mind real space to unwind. Whether through deep breathing, stretching, or simply pausing for a mindful moment, small acts of relaxation make a big difference.
day 5: fitness
We closed out the week on an energizing note! Kim, one of our very own RFRK’ers and a certified fitness coach, led us through a fun & inclusive virtual workout. Whether folks were seasoned athletes or just looking to move more, the session had something for everyone—proving that fitness is about progress, not perfection.
