hot pot night!

  • November 25, 2025

a feast for neighbours, and hearts! ❤️

Hot Pot Night, written & illustrated by Vincent Chen, is a delightful board book that celebrates the warmth and joy of neighbours coming together over a shared meal. The story begins when a Taiwanese American boy realizes he can’t gather all the ingredients for his hot pot on his own, and enlists the help of his wonderfully diverse neighbours.

From the broth to the meat, tofu, and freshly grown greens—even the pot itself—each neighbour lends a hand, creating a meal that tastes better the more people join in.

learn more about hot pot

The origins of hot pot take us back thousands of years ago to China during the Zhou Dynasty. Back then, nobles made hot pot with their own little bronze pots.

Today, it’s all about community (and a little practicality with the sharing of ingredients!). Hot pot is popular in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and has even spread across the world, bringing people together one bubbling pot at a time. Some popular hot pot ingredients include thinly sliced meat, fresh greens like cabbage and bok choy, mushrooms and tofu.
