quinoa

  • January 2, 2020

Quinoa, Keen-wah, Qui-noah, Bean-wah… whichever way you (or a toddler you may know), say it, that works for us! This plant-food is a source of all nine essential amino acids which is why the South American grain is worth the hype it’s received in the last decade. It’s gluten-free and easy to cook, like rice, and has a nutty flavour—without the nut allergy worries. It brings some depth to everything you add it to.

We serve this mighty, protein-power grain almost every week on our menu and have heard before that we’ve perfected the fluffy texture. A pinch of turmeric gives it the perfect glow.

Did you know quinoa is also grown in Canada? The Canadian versions we’ve experimented with so far are more glutinous (a bit like oatmeal) so we’re still looking for the perfect way to add a Canadian quinoa to our menu.

Did you also know that quinoa is a bit quontroversial? Is it a seed or is it a grain? You tell us! Tag us @realfoodforrealkids on Instagram or Facebook and #RFRKeveryday!
