soup day!

  • September 22, 2025

a story that simmers! 🥣 😍

soup bay book written by Melissa Iwai, front cover art illustration of little girl looking into a bowl of vegetable soup

Soup Day, written & illustrated by Melissa Iwai, is a feel-good, cozy tale about the love, effort, and family fun that goes into making a warm pot of veggie soup. Join a little girl and her mommy as they visit the market to pick out their favourite vegetables—then wash, chop, and dice them into just-right shapes for their bubbling pot. With warm & gentle illustrations that feel like a hug in book form, it’s a story all about togetherness.

Books that depict families cooking as a unit are some of our favourites. There’s something about simple meals, especially the ones made side by side, that tend to stick with you. As a kid, just knowing you helped can turn an ordinary day into one you remember for years. And those memories have a way of bubbling back up when you’re in the kitchen with someone you love, whether it’s your child, a family member, or a friend. This story gets it just right while tugging at your heartstrings. ❤️

Don’t forget to flip to the end for an easy veggie soup recipe. 😉
