At RFRK, not only do we fuel healthy futures with the kids we serve, but we also make sure to support our team. From Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24, our annual Wellness Week gave the team time to focus on self-care, with each day bringing a new theme, fun activities, and informative sessions that made it easy to pause, reset, and take care of body, mind and each other! By the time Friday came to an end, everyone started the weekend feeling rejuvenated!
each day focused on a different aspect of wellness:
- monday: nutrition & lifestyle
- tuesday: mindfulness & relationship building
- wednesday: environmental wellness
- thursday: financial wellness
- friday: physical wellness
day 1: nutrition & lifestyle 🥗

Feeling good really does start with the basics! Monday’s highlight was a Sleep & Relaxation webinar with Slow Medicine, which unpacked why our bodies can feel wired at night and what can help, from breathwork to gentle movement. The team also enjoyed a healthy treat with a meaningful backstory: Purplesful Popcorn, made from ancient grain purple corn, which is a source of anthocyanins, an antioxidant that can provide cardiovascular and anti-inflammatory benefits. Plus 25% of Purplesful proceeds go to kids’ charities!
day 2: mindfulness & relationship building 🫂

This day focused on being present & strengthening connections. Highlights included our Kudos Gratitude Wall, where we recognized teammates who make a difference—from those who inspire us to those who showed kindness on our first day. Our Food Service & Innovation team hosted a Smoothie Bar, developed in-house to showcase their creativity & culinary skills, with blends like The Glow-Up: SB&J, Beach Refresher, and Green Dream Machine. We also shared simple mindfulness tips like taking a one-minute reset, reducing distractions, practicing active listening, expressing gratitude, and focusing on one task at a time.
day 3: environmental wellness 🌍

Wednesday was Earth Day! Our Bike to Work challenge had team members choosing two wheels over four and showing up energized & ready to start the day (helmets included). It was a simple shift that can help support lower emissions, less congestion, not to mention a bit of fresh-air exercise. We also took part in our annual neighbourhood clean-up, hosted by RFRK’s Tommy and framed as a friendly challenge, where we paired up in teams and had 15 minutes to collect as much garbage as possible! It brought out a shared sense of purpose centred on getting outside, giving back, and spending time together.
day 4: financial wellness 💸

Thursday taught us how financial confidence can shape your day-to-day life. Highlights included a Financial Wellness Education Session with Wealthsimple, where we explored practical ways to manage money, from budgeting basics to smarter saving strategies and maximizing tax efficiencies. We also shared simple tips & tricks to support financial well-being, like tracking spending, setting realistic goals, reviewing personal expenses, planning ahead, and making the most of available benefits. It’s not about perfection, it’s about consistency!
day 5: physical wellness 💪

We closed out the week by taking a mindful approach to how our bodies feel & function. Highlights included our Wall Sit Challenge, where we tested our endurance for a shot at some great prizes—it definitely brought out everyone’s competitive side, and we were impressed by how long people held on. It wasn’t just about the challenge, but about discovering what we’re capable of.
