June 7th is World Food Safety Day. This year’s theme, “From burden to solutions: safe food everywhere,” recognizes the actions that help reduce foodborne illness and make food safer for everyone. Whether we’re thinking about our own community or the global food system, the goal is the same: ensuring people can trust the food they eat.

At Real Food For Real Kids, that trust is something we work to earn every day. Food safety is built into every stage of our operation, from carefully managing allergens and monitoring food temperatures to following strict sanitation practices and other food safety protocols. We’re also HACCP certified, an internationally recognized food safety system that helps ensure potential risks are identified and managed at every stage of food production.
Protecting kids means staying proactive, too. When important events like food recalls arise, our team is ready to act. If there’s a concern about an ingredient, like romaine lettuce, for example, we take many steps to be extra safe. We carefully review the information while adjusting menus and sourcing alternatives. It’s one of the many ways we help ensure the meals & snacks we serve are safe.
World Food Safety Day is also a chance to celebrate the people behind those efforts. Safe food doesn’t happen by accident. It takes a shared commitment to doing things the right way every day. We’re incredibly grateful for our hardworking RFRK team, whose efforts help keep kids safe, and for the researchers, educators, policymakers, and organizations around the world who are working toward safer food systems for everyone.
